In the U.S., another major city is entering a state of emergency due to unrest

The state of emergency and curfew were declared by the Mayor of Portland, Oregon's largest city.

The Mayor of Portland, Oregon, Ted Wheeler, announced the state of emergency on Saturday, May 30, in response to a major riot following the death in custody of African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“I am officially imposing a state of emergency. The curfew shall take effect immediately until 6:00 a.m. today. It will resume from 8 p.m. Saturday night until 6 a.m. Sunday morning,” he wrote on Twitter.

According to CNN, protests over Floyd's death are taking place in more than 30 major cities across the United States. Protests against the authorities are held in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, New York, Indianapolis, Boston, Washington, Detroit, and many other cities. In some cases, riots are accompanied by gunfire, in particular in Auckland, one member of the U.S. Federal Security Service was killed.

The most turbulent situation is in Minneapolis. Due to the riots in Minnesota, for the first time in history, the National Guard has announced full mobilization.

Four police officers who detained Floyd have been fired. One of them, Derek Shovin, was taken into custody on manslaughter charges.
