American leader Donald Trump said Washington intends to redirect the approximately $450 million per year previously allocated to the organization to other needs.
Washington intends to completely stop relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), as its leadership has refused to carry out transformations, which the U.S. authorities insisted on. This was announced on Friday by American President Donald Trump, his speech was broadcast on the White House website.
As stated by the American leader, Washington earlier reported “what reforms should be implemented” in the WHO to preserve the funds provided by the USA in the amount of about $450 million per year. “But they refused to do so,” Trump added. — Because they have refused to implement the required reforms, which are now needed, we are breaking off all ties with the WHO and redirecting those funds to other urgent and important needs related to global health”.
Once again, Trump asserted that China has full control over WHO. According to the U.S. president, Chinese authorities and WHO's leadership have not taken appropriate measures to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus.
On 18 May, Trump published a letter on Twitter that he sent to WHO Director-General Tedros Adan Hebreiasus. The document noted that the U.S. is willing to give the organization 30 days to guarantee reforms. The letter noted, among other things, that WHO should distance itself from Chinese authorities. Washington stated that otherwise it would stop funding WHO and review its membership in the organization.
