U.S. President Donald Trump should begin to aggressively attack his main opponent in the upcoming elections, former Vice President Joe Biden, and rather "bury" him as a contender for the presidency. This current American leader is called for by his supporters of the Republican Party, writes Politico.
According to the publication, Trump's advisers and a number of senior Republican politicians are concerned that the president's attacks on his main rival still do not look convincing, although there are only five months left until the election, which will be held in November. They said Trump's headquarters initially had hoped that it would be enough to focus on the head of state's economic achievements to win the election, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the strategy has to be revised in real-time as the plan no longer works. Thus, social polls have already repeatedly recorded a decline in the popularity of Trump and, conversely, a rise in the popularity of Biden.
Under such conditions, the supporters of the incumbent president believe, he must come up with new ways to spoil Biden's reputation by investing even more money in an advertising campaign against him. "Take off your gloves and get rid of him. If you've got a financial advantage and a whole June, why not bury him?" - suggested one of the Republicans close to the White House.
Other close associates of the U.S. leader have a similar opinion. According to them, "Americans remember Biden as the happy grandfather of Barack Obama's presidency," who has also been taking care of the interests of the middle class for several decades. The best Trump can do is to discredit the most likely Democrat candidate in the eyes of voters. And it is not enough to talk about Biden's allegedly overly mild attitude towards China, hint at his dementia or call him a long invented nickname like "Sleepy Joe", experts say.
Probably, Politico notes, Trump's methods of work in this direction will really change soon after a number of permutations in it. At the same time, supporters of the president are afraid that the time left to fight with Biden is too short.
Earlier in May, it was reported that Trump had already symbolically "buried" Biden. On his Facebook page, he posted a video with dancing coffin porters from Ghana, who "buried" the presidency of the most likely candidate of the Democratic Party of the United States, Joe Biden. The coffin says "President Biden."
