Iran Demands US Not to Interfere in Venezuela's Fuel Supply

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif turned to UN Secretary-General Anthony Guterres, warning that Tehran would respond to the United States in the event of threats to tankers carrying fuel to Venezuela.

"The Iranian Foreign Minister in a letter called the illegal, provocative, and dangerous threats to the US by sea piracy, saying that they pose a danger to the region. Zarif also recalled that the US government is responsible for the consequences of any kind of illegal actions, stressing that Iran has the right to accept the necessary measures to counter these threats, "- said in a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

In addition, in connection with this, the Swiss Ambassador representing the United States in Tehran was called to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, to whom the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi requested to send Washington a warning from the Iranian authorities.

Earlier, Reuters, citing a senior representative of the US Presidential Administration Donald Trump, said that Washington is considering measures that can be taken in relation to Iran, which supplied oil to Venezuela.

In addition, the agency reports that, according to this official, Washington has a high degree of confidence that the Venezuelan government pays Iran “tons of gold” in return.

In 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement with Iran on a nuclear program and again imposed sanctions against Tehran, including secondary ones, that is, in relation to other countries doing business with Iran. Washington announced its goal to bring Iranian oil exports to zero and urged its buyers to abandon such purchases.
