In the United States, the number of unemployed increased by 6.6 million in one week

This was reported in the report of the US Department of Labor.

It is specified that according to the ministry, in the last two weeks alone, about 10 million Americans have remained unemployed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

It is noted that as of last week in the country there were 3.3 million initial applications for material benefits for the unemployed.

This number of applications broke the 1982 record. Then, applications for material benefits were submitted by 695 thousand people.

Moreover, as a rule, the number of applications for benefits for one week does not exceed 300 thousand.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed the law (CARES Act) on the allocation of assistance to the US economy in the amount of $2.2 trillion.

The WHO believes that the United States may become the new epicenter of the spread of coronavirus.

Since March 20, tens of thousands of US National Guard troops have been deployed in different directions to overcome the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

There is an acute shortage of personal protective equipment in the country due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Authorities explain the incident by saying that “no one knew that there would be a pandemic.”
