De Blasio: New York Quarantine May Last Until May

On Friday, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said the city should be ready to remain in quarantine until May, as the situation “will worsen,” Fox News reports. To date, more than 23,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in New York.

“You need to be realistic. I can tell you right now that we have enough supplies to supply our hospitals for this and next week.” — he said. “That's all I can guarantee you. And after that, unfortunately, we think that the crisis will increase — until April and until May. It's true.”

De Blasio noted that recently the indicators of the number of diseases are encouraging, but he does not want to give false hopes to the townspeople. The mayor reiterated that half of New Yorkers are projected to be infected. However, he reassured the townspeople, citing the experience of medical staff — the mayor said that most of the patients will experience minor symptoms of a cold. De Blasio added that he does not view Easter days as a deadline for quarantine.

De Blasio also mentioned that New York still needs additional respiratory equipment.

“Now we need help. When the president says that New York State does not need 30,000 ventilators, with all due respect, but he does not take into account the astronomical growth of this crisis.” — said the mayor.
