Inga Yumasheva was detained upon arrival in New York, from where she was going to go to the Russian-American forum
A couple of months after the United States did not issue visas to members of the Russian delegation at the UN General Assembly, Inga Yumasheva, member of the Russian State Duma from Putin’s United Russia party, was detained at a New York airport.
The incident occurred on the night of October 5-6, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said, noting that Yumasheva flew in to participate in the Russian-American Forum Fort Dialog Dialogue.
After being detained, an FBI officer interrogated the Russian deputy for about an hour, asking her “absolutely incomprehensible, obscure and unacceptable questions,” and ultimately invited her to continue the conversation “in an informal setting,” the embassy of the Russian Federation added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has already expressed its protest in connection with the incident, and the embassy sent a note of protest to the US State Department.
Yumashev did not comment on her detention.
Recall that in August the Russian authorities refused to issue visas to three members of the US Senate who wanted to visit the Russian Federation — Mike Lee, Chris Murphy, and Ron Johnson.
