Hurricane Nicholas weakened to a storm and hit the US

Storm winds and heavy downpours left almost 450,000 residents of Louisiana and Texas without electricity.

Category I Hurricane Nicholas weakened to a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico. He went to the US coast, hitting the states of Texas and Louisiana. It was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, September 14.

It is indicated that the stormy wind and heavy downpours left almost 450 thousand residents without electricity — more than 95 thousand Louisiana residents and more than 345 thousand people in Texas. On Tuesday, schools in both states canceled classes and asked residents to stay at home.

At the same time, the elements interfered with the restoration work on the lines damaged earlier by Hurricane Ida. There was no light in the homes of 119,000 Louisiana residents.

Earlier it was reported that US President Joe Biden signed a decree declaring an emergency in Louisiana due to the approach of Nicholas and ordered federal aid to be provided to local authorities.
