Washington did not rule out new international sanctions against the Taliban
The US State Department said that if the Taliban behave in a certain way, they may face additional international sanctions.
“It is hard to imagine that the current sanctions will be lifted if the Taliban go against the basic conditions of the Afghans. Moreover, additional sanctions may be imposed, ” said the head of the State Department Anthony Blinken at a briefing.
Blinken also tried to justify the actions of the administration of President Joe Biden regarding the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and the problems during the evacuation, blaming, in particular, the responsibility for this on ex-President Donald Trump.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the secretariat of the organization will not deal with the issue of lifting sanctions against the radical Taliban movement.
Earlier, the United States and other Western countries warned that the Taliban must guarantee the observance of human rights in Afghanistan, as well as fight against terrorism. In early September, the State Department announced that the United States did not plan to revise sanctions against the Taliban.
