Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which took place on August 20 in Moscow.
The Russian leader noted that they were held in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere, the prospects for the development of relations between Moscow and Berlin were discussed.
According to him, one of the priority topics was the topic of Afghanistan.
вЂњIn our opinion, it is especially important now to prevent the penetration of terrorists of all stripes into the territories of states bordering Afghanistan, including under the guise of refugees,вЂќ Putin said at a press conference following the talks.
He said that the German Chancellor also raised the topic of Belarus during the talks.
The President noted that the Russian side believes that вЂњ the contradictions within the Belarusian society can be resolved only within the framework of the constitutional and legal framework and exclusively by the Belarusians themselves without external interference.вЂќ
The previous time Putin and Merkel met in person was on January 19, 2020, in Berlin at an international conference on Libya.
According to the Kremlin's press service, during the conversation, the state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields will be discussed, as well as a number of topical international and regional issues will be considered.
The German government clarified that the situation in Afghanistan is likely to become one of the central topics of the negotiations.
