The US military temporarily suspended the evacuation from the Kabul airport. According to Reuters, in order to continue the operation to evacuate diplomats and Afghans who collaborated with the United States, it is necessary to clear the airfield.
According to the Al-Jazeera TV channel, chaos reigns at the airport due to the constant movement of helicopters and crowds of people trying at all costs to get on board planes departing from the country. At the moment, only military transports can do this, civilian flights are temporarily suspended. Several people were killed after American soldiers opened fire on Afghans who spilled onto the runway.
Meanwhile, CNN, citing Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, reported that the United States can place up to 30 thousand Afghans applying for a special visa on military bases inside the country. Fort Bliss in Texas and Fort McCoy in Wisconsin are named as potential locations.
It is expected that the United States will completely withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by the end of August and withdraw thousands of Afghan citizens who collaborated with the Americans. The US Embassy is already closed, all diplomats are at the airport.
