Xiaomi has become the number one brand among smartphones for the first time, shifting from the top of the traditional leaders-iPhone and Samsung, according to a report by Counterpoint.
In June 2021, Xiaomi increased sales by 26 percent, becoming the fastest-growing brand. The company's monthly share in global smartphone sales was 17.1 percent compared to 15.7 percent for Samsung and 14.3 percent for Apple.
Shipments of Xiaomi smartphones increased by 98 percent compared to the same period a year earlier and amounted to 50 million in the second quarter. This jump was facilitated by the high demand for both medium and premium models at the same time. This combination of devices allowed Xiaomi to achieve the highest level of smartphone revenue in the second quarter of 2021.
The brand moved Huawei, whose sales volume slowed due to US sanctions, and took its place in the markets of China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Xiaomi's growth was also helped by problems with Samsung's June deliveries — its main factories are located in Vietnam, where a new wave of coronavirus is now raging.
Samsung's sales volume in the second quarter fell by 24 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 59.7 million units of equipment. However, according to analysts from Counterpoint, the company will regain its position with an improvement in the epidemiological situation. Apple's shipments fell by 18 percent, their volume amounted to 48.9 million.
