Ford will lay off a thousand employees for the sake of electric cars

The American automaker Ford has decided to lay off about a thousand employees to start producing electric cars. Due to this, the company will have additional funds for the reorganization of production, Bloomberg reports.

The official representative of Ford said that the company has been practicing personnel adjustments for a long time — they help to compare the skills of the team and business priorities. Currently, the focus has shifted to the production of electric vehicles under the Ford + program, and it will be more effective to dismiss employees who will not be able to be useful for it.

Ford notified the employees who were laid off in July, that is, a month before the decision was made. The automaker promised to make the dismissal as comfortable as possible — to pay large severance payments and help with subsequent employment.

Last September, Ford first announced its intention to cut 1,400 employees in the United States to improve its financial situation. However, in the spring, the company announced an unexpectedly high profit of $561 million after raising prices for rare car models.

The decision of the car company is connected with the desire to achieve the goals of the American government to reduce emissions. Ford said that by 2030, 40 to 50 percent of the cars it sells will be powered by electric motors.

Another automaker, the reduction of staff helped to get a record profit. Bentley earned 178 million euros in the first half of 2021. This result was achieved in six months for the first time in its 102-year history.
