WHO: The world is in real danger from COVID-19

The director-general of the organization calls on countries to abandon the revaccination of citizens with a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Many of the achievements of the world community in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic are leveled out for a number of reasons, in connection with which humanity is in “real danger”. This was stated by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus at a briefing on Thursday, August 5.

“The world is now in a period of real danger. Many of the achievements that we have achieved are now undergoing erosion,” said the WHO Director-General.

The reasons for this state of affairs, he said, are the increased number of social contacts, inconsistency in the health and public sphere, and unequal vaccinations.

“Hard-won gains in the fight against the pandemic are being lost, health systems are overwhelmed as the rise in the number of infected people creates a shortage of the treatment needed to save lives,” the head of the organization said.

At the same time, he once again opposed the introduction of the third (booster) dose of the coronavirus vaccine in order to send the released doses of the drug to low-income countries and achieve the minimum goal — to immunize at least 10% of the population in all countries of the world by the end of September.

Recall that the United States considers the WHO moratorium on the booster dose of the COVID vaccine to be wrong, since the country, according to the White House press secretary Jen Psaki, has enough vaccine both for revaccination and for helping countries in need.
