The offensive of the Taliban militants in Afghanistan causes “deep concern” in Washington.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said he was “deeply concerned” about the situation with the offensive of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. He commented on the situation in the country during a visit to New Delhi on Wednesday, July 28.
“We see that the Taliban is attacking district centers and threatening some provincial centers. We are also aware of the atrocities committed by the Taliban in the territory under their control. These reports are deeply disturbing, " he said.
According to him, the actions of the Taliban do not put them in the best light before the residents of the country.
“An Afghanistan in which human rights are not respected, an Afghanistan in which atrocities are committed against its own population, will become a rogue country,” Blinken said.
He recalled that the United States maintains its presence in Afghanistan, despite the withdrawal of troops. Cooperation between the two countries continues in the fields of economy, security, and diplomacy.
The Taliban claims that it is seeking international recognition and international support for Afghanistan. Perhaps they want their leaders to be able to travel freely around the world so that sanctions are lifted and so on. But the seizure of the country by force and the violation of the rights of the people will not lead to the achievement of these goals. There is only one way. These are negotiations to resolve the conflict peacefully, " the Secretary of State believes.
Blinken also noted that the government formed after the negotiations will have to take into account the interests of the entire population of Afghanistan.
Earlier, US intelligence announced a forecast regarding how long the radical Taliban movement will seize power in Afghanistan. They believe that the country's authorities will focus on concentrating troops in extremely important infrastructure facilities and large cities.
