The U.S. asked Ukraine not to criticize the agreement on the Nord Stream 2

The United States authorities have called on the Ukrainian government to refrain from criticizing the Nord Stream — 2 gas pipeline and a possible deal with Germany on it. Politico writes about this with reference to informed sources.

The Nord Stream 2 runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, bypassing the transit states Ukraine and Poland. On June 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the completion of the laying of the first line of the gas pipeline. It is expected that the gas pipeline will be fully completed by the end of August.

On the eve of the information appeared that the United States and Germany agreed on the “Nord Stream 2”. One of the key points of the agreement should be an increase in investments aimed at the speedy transition of Ukraine to renewable energy. Also, according to Bloomberg, Germany has pledged to contribute to the extension of at least ten years of agreements on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, which expires in 2024.

According to sources from Politico, US officials have warned Kyiv that publicly speaking out against the upcoming agreement with Germany could damage bilateral relations.

The Ukrainian authorities also urged not to discuss potential plans of the United States and Germany with Congress. At the same time, a senior official from the administration of US President Joe Biden denied these data, noting that the situation is much more complicated than it seems. He refused to voice the details.
