Democratic politician Mike Bloomberg attacked his opponent Bernie Sanders, speaking to the American-Israeli Committee on Public Relations (AIPAC). This was reported by The New York Times.
Earlier, Bernie Sanders criticized the AIPAC (American-Israeli Committee on Public Relations), a conservative public organization whose goal is to influence the pro-Israeli course in US foreign policy.
According to Sanders, AIPAC is a platform for “leaders who express fanaticism and oppose the fundamental rights of the Palestinians,” and therefore he does not consider it necessary to attend committee-organized events.
“The people of Israel have the right to live in peace and security. So are the Palestinian people. I remain concerned about the platform that AIPAC provides to leaders who express fanaticism and oppose the fundamental rights of the Palestinians. For this reason, I will not attend their conferences. As president, I will support the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians and will do everything possible to ensure peace and security in the region, ” the politician wrote on Twitter on February 24.
In turn, another Democratic candidate, billionaire Mike Bloomberg, spoke to AIPAC at a conference that Sanders refused to attend.
In his speech, Bloomberg noted that some of his Democratic rivals had not attended any of the group’s conferences before. He paid particular attention to Sanders, accusing him of weakening relations between the United States and Israel and deliberately boycotting AIPAC conferences.
Among other things, Bloomberg incorrectly rephrased Sanders, saying: “As you have heard, he called AIPAC a racist platform.”
“Let me tell you, he is completely wrong. This is a collection of 20,000 Israeli supporters of all faiths, ethnicity, religion, color, sexual identity, and political parties. Calling it a racist platform is an attempt to discredit these voices, intimidate people coming here, and weaken US-Israeli relations. ... The reality is: AIPAC does not incite hatred. AIPAC is fighting it, and the violence it can cause, ” said Bloomberg.
Earlier it was reported that US Senator Bernie Sanders leads the Democratic delegate race in four states.
