Biden intends to abolish the death penalty in the United States

US President Joe Biden supports the abolition of the death penalty in the country and considers the moratorium announced yesterday an important step forward. This was stated by the official representative of the White House Jen Psaki during a briefing, reports CBS News.

She recalled that the head of state made it clear during the election campaign that he wanted to stop executions.

“He (Biden) am glad to see that the Prosecutor General is making steps forward, " Psaki said.

On the eve of the United States, Attorney General Merrick Garland introduced a moratorium on executions at the federal level of American law.

It was reported that the moratorium is being introduced during the process of reviewing the internal policies and rules of the US Department of Justice. Executions at the federal level were carried out in the country for the first time in 20 years in the period from July 2020 to January 2021.
