Saudi Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Abd Al-Aziz, the nephew of King Salman, was sentenced to death. This is written by the Washington Institute for the Study of the Persian Gulf Countries (Gulf Institute) with reference to one of the prince's relatives.
A military court has found the former commander of the Saudi forces in Yemen guilty of high treason. The kingdom's authorities believe that Fahd is involved in organizing an anti-government coup to oust King Salman and his son Mohammed bin Salman, who is the Minister of Defense and the de facto ruler of the country.
Experts interviewed by the Institute note that Mohammed bin Salman is allegedly involved in the arrest.
According to their version, in this way he wants to force the family of the arrested person to replenish the state treasury: it is assumed that the economic situation in the country is deteriorating.
Prince Fahd was arrested in September 2020 along with his son Abdulaziz. In February of this year, American intelligence suggested that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, personally approved the murder of the opposition Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
He disappeared in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. The Prosecutor General's Office of Saudi Arabia has recognized the fact of the journalist's death.
