A new strain of the Lambda coronavirus has broken out of South America

A new variant of COVID-19 Lambda, massively diagnosed in South America, broke out of the continent, reached Europe, and was recorded in the UK. This is reported by The Sun.

According to the British Ministry of Health, six cases of the disease “lambda” — a variant of the coronavirus-were detected on the island state, while all of them are associated with trips abroad.

The “Lambda” variation of SARS-CoV-2 (C. 37) is now under special supervision due to several notable mutations of the strain, including L452Q and F490S. The World Health Organization has already classified the “Lambda” variant as a variation that requires close monitoring.

The WHO said that mutations of the new COVID-19 strain are more contagious and increase resistance to antibodies, although there is not enough evidence to say this for sure.

Currently, the UK Ministry of Health is conducting laboratory tests to better understand how the new mutations affected the behavior of the virus.

According to the publication, Peru, where a new strain of coronavirus was first recorded, accounts for more than 81 percent of diseases with the “Lambda” variant. This type of infection has spread to Chile (where 32 percent of all those infected in the last 60 days have it), Argentina, and Ecuador.

Doctors also found a new dangerous variant of the coronavirus in the south of Brazil. According to the researchers, the spread of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 can exacerbate the epidemiological situation in the country.
