Joe Biden is waiting for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a state of emergency — then federal aid can be sent

In the US state of Florida, a partial collapse of a 12-story residential building occurred, about a hundred people may remain under the rubble.

This is reported by CNN.

The accident happened on the night of June 24 in the city of Surfside, which is located in the suburbs of Miami. As a result of the incident, at least one person was killed.

So far, only two victims have been taken out from under the rubble — they were immediately hospitalized. Another 97 people are missing. Their search continues, some people make sounds from under the rubble.

Among them may be relatives of the first lady of Paraguay, Silvana Lopez Moreira.

Another 35 residents of the surviving part of the building were evacuated.

US President Joe Biden expressed his readiness to send federal resources to the crash site, including rescuers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. But this requires that the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, declare a state of emergency.

The building was built in 1981. Of the 136 apartments, 55 were destroyed.

The cause of the collapse of the building is still unknown.
