India recognizes new coronavirus strain as “worrisome”

The Indian authorities have recognized the variant of the coronavirus “delta plus” as “of concern,” India Today reports, citing the country's Ministry of Health.

Prior to this, the new mutation of the “Indian” strain was characterized by the authorities as” interesting”.

“The option of concern is one that, in our opinion, can lead to adverse consequences for humanity,” the representative of the Indian authorities explained.

At the moment, 22 cases of infection with the “delta plus” variant have been identified in India, the Hindustan Times reports, citing data from the country's government.

According to the head of the Indian Ministry of Health, Rajesh Bhushan, the “delta plus” variant has also been found in the United States, Great Britain, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Poland, Nepal, China, and Russia.

Earlier it became known that a new strain of coronavirus — “delta plus” — was found in India. It is able to reduce the activity of antibodies in patients who have been ill and vaccinated.
