Putin tells Merkel about talks with Biden

The German Chancellor called the Russian president on the occasion of the anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War and learned about his meeting with Biden.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, June 22, held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which he informed her about the talks with US President Joe Biden. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

“At the request of the Federal Chancellor, the President of Russia informed about the main results of the Russian-American summit in Geneva on June 16... It was agreed on further personal contacts, “ the message reads.

The leaders of Russia and Germany also recalled the Day of Mourning.

“Angela Merkel expressed feelings of empathy in connection with the incalculable misery and suffering that the war unleashed by the Nazi regime brought. Both sides stressed the importance of preserving the historical memory of the tragic events of those years. At the same time, Vladimir Putin said that Russia appreciated the participation of Angela Merkel and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the commemorative events in Germany,” the report says.

Putin and Merkel stated that ensuring the security of Europe is possible only through joint efforts.

It is also noted that during the conversation, it was stated that overcoming mutual hostility and reconciliation of the Russian and German peoples were of key importance for the fate of post-war Europe.
