Denmark accuses Russia of violating its airspace

Danish Air Force

The Danish Defense Ministry has accused Russia of violating the country's airspace.

“Russian planes violated Danish airspace in the Bornholm area, and the country's Air Force had to take off its aircraft to resolve the situation,” the Danish Ritzau news agency reported.

Danish Defense Minister Trine Bramsen claims that two cases of Russian aircraft entering Danish airspace were recorded at once during the day.

She stressed that this happens very rarely, so “the situation is very serious.”

The Ministry of Defense is investigating all the circumstances of the incident.

On May 6, the general staff of the Estonian Defense Forces said that a Russian Il-96 plane entered the republic's airspace near the island of Vaindloo without permission and stayed there for about a minute.

It is noted that the plane's transponder was turned on, but it did not have a flight plan, at the time of the border violation there was no two-way radio communication with the Estonian air traffic control service.

The Russian side has repeatedly stated that all flights of Russian aircraft are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters, without violating the borders of other states.
