Turkey, by purchasing the Russian S-400 air defense system, violated the obligations assumed within the framework of NATO, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on June 10.
According to him, Washington has warned and continues to warn Ankara against using the Russian air defense system.
“The Russian S-400s are incompatible with NATO equipment, threaten the security of the alliance's technologies, and do not comply with Turkey's own obligations to NATO. We have warned and continue to warn Turkey-do not use this system,” Price said.
At the same time, he noted the importance of Turkey's independent refusal to possess the Russian S-400 air defense system.
After Ankara acquired the Russian S-400 air defense system, Washington blocked Turkey's participation in the F-35 program and froze the transfer of the first fighters of this type to the Turkish Air Force.
However, Ankara has already stated that it would like to purchase a second regimental set of S-400s.
