In California, the ban on assault weapons was lifted

The court's decision has already been criticized by Governor Gavin Newsom, who called it “a direct threat to the lives of innocent Californians.” The authorities can appeal the verdict of the court within 30 days.

A court in California overturned an assault weapons ban that had been in effect in the state since 1989.

The ban violates the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, the judge concluded. He stressed that in the vast majority of cases, assault weapons are used by Americans for legitimate purposes.

“Like the Swiss knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is the perfect combination of home defense weapons and homeland defense weapons. It is good both for the house and for the fight,” the judge stressed.

He also stressed that in the state, murders with a knife occur seven times more often than with a rifle.

The court's decision has already been criticized by Governor Gavin Newsom, who called it "a direct threat to the lives of innocent Californians." The authorities can appeal the verdict of the court within 30 days.

Note that semi-automatic assault weapons are often used by criminals who commit mass murder.

At the federal level, the ban on the sale of assault weapons was in effect in the United States from 1994 to 2004. In March 2021, US President Joe Biden called on Congress to re-enact such a law, this happened after two mass murders in a row occurred in the country in a week.

The United States has an average of 25 times more gun homicides per capita than other developed countries. Citizens had an estimated 393 million weapons in their hands at the end of 2018. But no one knows the exact number of “guns” that Americans keep in their homes.

It is noteworthy that the more often they shoot, the more Americans buy weapons.

In the middle of the summer of 2020, New York, which was hit hardest by the coronavirus, was rocked by pogroms and a historic wave of murders against the backdrop of the economic crisis and police budget cuts at the request of supporters of “racial justice”.
