The summit of the leaders of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin, and Joe Biden, is needed so that Washington can understand Moscow's intentions. This was stated by the Deputy Press Secretary of the White House, Karin Jean-Pierre.
The summit is not a gift to Russia, but an opportunity to defend American interests. There is a lot of work to be done there, " she said at a briefing.
Jean-Pierre explained that the meeting of the two leaders is “the most effective way to understand Russia's plans and intentions.”
Earlier, on May 25, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that Putin and Biden will discuss issues of strategic stability, as well as the situation in Ukraine and Belarus. She stressed that the American leader intends to raise the topic of US support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Psaki also added that new topics may appear.
On May 30, Biden said that at a meeting with his Russian counterpart, he intends to raise the issue of human rights in Russia.
