The Pentagon has requested hundreds of billions of dollars to fight the Russian threat

The US Department of Defense requested hundreds of billions of dollars from the budget for the 2022 fiscal year and explained this as a “Russian and Chinese threat,” according to an explanatory note on the department's website.

“The United States military faces serious challenges from countries such as China and Russia, as well as threats to global security such as climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Pentagon said. It is noted that the costs will be spent on innovation and modernization, care for military personnel, and building relations with allies.

The budget reflects the president's values and priorities in the field of national security, the department added. The amount requested by the US Department of Defense was $715 billion, while $703.7 billion was approved for the fiscal year 2021. Thus, the growth was 1.6 percent. The new fiscal year in the United States begins on October 1, 2021.

Earlier, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley, called for preventing a war with Russia and China. He called for paying attention to the emergency situation in relations between the states and creating conditions for preventing a collision in the future.
