US President Joe Biden said that US sanctions will not be able to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, since it is already almost completed. The head of state said this to journalists, speaking on the lawn near the White House.
The American leader also said that restrictions against the project could be counterproductive for relations with Europe.
Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions against Russian organizations and vessels involved in the Nord Stream 2 project.
It is specified that the sanctions lists include the organizations “Marine Rescue Service”, "Mortransservice", Samara “Heat and Power Property Fund”, as well as a number of vessels, including “Akademik Chersky”, “Baltic Explorer”, “Lifeguard Karev”, “Yuri Topchev” and others.
The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea was supposed to be completed at the end of 2019. However, this was prevented, in particular, by the threat of sanctions from the United States, because of which European companies began to leave the project.
