The Austrian Foreign Minister said that Russia and the EU should cooperate in many areas, ranging from climate issues to energy
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that the European Union wants to establish a dialogue with Russia, but at this stage, the Kremlin is not interested in this.
He said this on the air of the radio station O1.
“The relationship is definitely strained and burdened right now. As they say, two people dance the tango. The European Union wants dialogue. We want channels for dialogue, but this requires an appropriate response, the other side should also want this, “ the minister said.
He said that despite the signals that the European Union receives from the Kremlin, Russia is not interested in dialogue at this stage.
“Austria always makes efforts for a strong and sustainable channel of dialogue with Moscow,” he said.
According to Schallenberg, Russia and the EU should cooperate in many areas, ranging from climate and energy issues.
“There are many topics on which we want to work together and should do so. Keywords: climate, energy. Here we must cooperate. But we certainly can't let our values down. I really hope that the tone will change soon so that we can someday find a way to co-exist. There is no doubt that it is difficult now, “ the minister said.
At the same time, he noted that because of the many provocations in Europe and the European Union, sanctions were imposed against Russia.
It should be noted that on May 24-25, an EU summit will be held in Brussels, where relations with Russia and the situation with the pandemic will be discussed.
