Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex has admitted to taking drugs and drinking a lot of alcohol after the death of Princess Diana's mother. The 36-year-old prince spoke in the documentary “The Me You Can't See”, where Prince Harry himself is the host along with Oprah Winfrey, about his psychological struggle and the trauma that haunts him.
The Duke admitted that he was never given any personal space or time to truly mourn the death of his mother. Eventually, this led him to turn to substances and alcohol to at least somehow numb this pain. He could abstain from alcohol for several days, and then in one day drink the entire weekly dose in one sitting.
I wanted to drink, I wanted to take drugs. I was willing to try anything to reduce this pain in me and forget about these feelings. At some point, I discovered that I was drinking not because I liked it, but because I was trying to hide something, “ Prince Harry said.
Princess Diana died in a car accident in 1997. According to the prince, the period between 2012 and 2016 was a “nightmare time” for him, when he experienced anxiety and panic attacks. The use of prohibited substances and alcohol also applies to this period.
Earlier, Prince Harry admitted that he was a little ashamed of how he dealt with the psychological problems of his wife Meghan Markle. According to him, he felt sorry for his beloved, and he was angry with himself for the fact that they were forced to “get stuck in this reality.”
