The US launches ballistic missile early detection satellite into space

The US Space Force sent the SBIRS GEO 5 ballistic missile Launch Early Detection system satellite into orbit on Tuesday using an Atlas V launch vehicle.

The launch was broadcast on the website of the creators of the launch vehicle — the United Launch Alliance company.

The launch took place at 13:37 on the East Coast of the United States from the spaceport at Cape Canaveral (Florida).

The SBIRS GEO 5 satellite is an integral part of the US missile warning system. It includes two echelons — ground (a network of radar stations) and space (a network of satellites with infrared equipment). The space echelon of the American warning system similarly includes groupings of vehicles in geostationary and highly elliptical orbits.
