More deaths: WHO has announced a new forecast for COVID-19

The second year of the coronavirus pandemic may bring even more deaths than the first. This was stated by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

COVID-19 has already cost us 3.3 million lives. We have entered the second year of the pandemic, which may bring more deaths than the first, — said the head of the organization.

According to him, public health measures should be combined to save lives. The WHO noted that vaccination is the only 100% means of combating the pandemic. The organization recalled that vaccinated people can get sick, although a less severe form of coronavirus infection. It is noted that it is necessary to cancel the mask regime or the lifting of restrictions, focusing not on the number of vaccinated in the country, but on the level of spread of coronavirus infection.

In December, the head of the WHO predicted that the current coronavirus pandemic would not be the last. The international community should act on this basis and prepare for similar situations. Gebreyesus recalled that previously the coronavirus was not known to the world, but everything “turned upside down.”
