20-ton rocket hurtles to Earth: disaster threatens New York and Beijing

The rocket will enter the atmosphere of our planet in the period from 8 to 10 May — during this time it will make a trip around the world 30 times

Soon, a 20-ton stage of a Chinese rocket will fall to the ground. Massive destruction threatens a number of countries, including the United States, New Zealand, and Turkmenistan.

This is reported by the BBC.

On April 29, China launched the base module of its future space station into orbit with the Long March 5B (Changzheng-5B) heavy launch vehicle.

After that, the Pentagon and the US Space Force said that the Chinese development was out of control, and the fall of its debris could cause serious damage on Earth.

It is not yet possible to determine the exact time and place of the fall. According to a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Jonathan McDowell, the rocket will enter the atmosphere of our planet in the period from 8 to 10 May — " during this time, it will make a trip around the world 30 times.”

At the same time, the researcher is sure that you should not be afraid of the wreckage. The risk of damage, he said, is incredibly small.

As the BBC notes, regions between 41 degrees north and 41 degrees south latitude fall into the risk zone. These are New York, southern Chile, Wellington in New Zealand, Turkmenistan, and Beijing in China.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Wenbin, believes that almost all the fragments of the rocket will burn up in the atmosphere, and the remaining ones will fall into international waters.

As previously reported, Elon Musk's company SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 launch vehicle into orbit with the next batch of satellites for the global Internet coverage of the Starlink system. This time, it delivered 60 satellites.
