Earlier in April, the commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, announced the withdrawal of troops from a number of bases located in the Islamic Republic. He noted that all the bases will be transferred to the Afghan forces.

Before that, US President Joe Biden said that the United States has fulfilled its mission in Afghanistan and will begin withdrawing troops from the country on May 1.

In 2020, the United States and the radical Afghan movement “Taliban” signed a peace agreement for the first time in more than 18 years of war. According to the agreements, American troops must leave Afghanistan by May 1. The administration of the new US president Joe Biden has announced its intention to review the agreements with the Taliban.

The American operation in Afghanistan was launched in response to the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.
