The US Embassy in Russia stops issuing visas

The US diplomatic mission is drastically reducing its staff and consular services. Americans are advised to leave Russia by June 15.

The US Embassy in Russia is reducing the staff of the consulate by 75% and suspending the consideration of documents for issuing visas for non-diplomatic trips. This is stated in a message on the website of the diplomatic mission on Friday, April 30.

Such actions are related to the ban on hiring foreign citizens.

“We regret that the actions of the Russian government forced us to reduce our consulate staff by 75%, and we will try to offer US citizens as many services as possible,” the statement said.

Also, from May 12, the number of consular services will be reduced due to the restrictions imposed on employees.

The issuance of non-immigrant visas for non-diplomats will be discontinued. In addition, in the foreseeable future, the embassy in Moscow will not resume the provision of standard notary services, the replacement of US passports, and the issuance of other documents to fellow citizens. The diplomats recommended that Americans with expired visas leave Russia before June 15, or start applying for a new visa through the Russian Interior Ministry.

Recall, on April 21, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of 10 American diplomats in response to similar actions by the United States. The Russian Federation also banned American diplomatic missions from hiring foreign citizens.
