According to police sources, the stampede was caused by several people slipping on the steps, causing dozens more to fall.

The celebration of the Jewish holiday of Lag Ba-Omer on Mount Meron, where the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai is located, was the first mass event in Israel after the lifting of restrictions on the coronavirus. The police reported that up to 100 thousand people participated in the event.

Initially, it was reported that 38 people were killed during the celebration in Israel. At the same time, the cause of the tragedy was indicated by the collapse of the stands.

Recall that at the end of March in India, during the opening ceremony of the National Championship, a grandstand with 1.5 thousand spectators collapsed. Then about 100 people were injured.
