Thailand's prime minister fined for not wearing a mask

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha was fined 6,000 baht (~$190) for violating the mask regime on the first day of these restrictions, Aswin Kwanmuang reported, governor of the Thai capital, Bangkok.

“I told him that he had violated an order of the capital's administration that requires all city residents to always wear a mask when outside their residence," Kwanmuanga said, commenting on the prime minister's Facebook recording of him holding a meeting at the Government House while sitting without a mask.

Prayut Chan-Ocha became one of the first Bangkok residents to be fined for a mask violation. The fine system provides for an increase in the amount for subsequent cases — 12,000 baht for a repeat violation, on the third and subsequent times residents will have to pay 20,000 baht — or about $653.
