US President Joe Biden during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin warned him about the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions for cyberattacks and election interference. This was announced by a senior representative of the US administration.
“The President had a conversation with President Putin again and told him that the United States will respond this week to the SolrWind cyber breach and interference in the 2020 election. And that's what we're doing today,” he said.
Earlier, the United States promised to respond to the cyberattack and other actions that Russia is involved in. After that, US President Joe Biden signed a decree on the introduction of sanctions against Russia.
The sanctions are imposed against 32 Russian individuals and organizations because of Russia's “interference” in the US elections. Also, in partnership with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, the United States imposes sanctions on eight individuals and entities that are associated with Crimea. The US Treasury Department has blacklisted six Russian technology companies that support the cyber program of the Russian special services.
Before that, the White House accused the Russians of hacking with the help of SolarWinds software on nine US federal agencies and more than 100 private sector enterprises.
