Women's organizations declared war on the head of the European Council

During the negotiations in Ankara, the protocol service did not provide a chair for the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The woman had to sit down on the sofa, and not alone, but with the company of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Ursula von der Leyen took the incident as an insult, and associations of European women reacted immediately and have already sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, demanding his resignation.

Before publication, more than 2,500 signatures on behalf of women's organizations in several EU and non-European countries had been left under the document. In particular, the International Women's Empowerment Foundation pointed out Michel's “three main mistakes” during his meeting with Erdogan. They explained that Michel's action damaged “diplomacy, the European Union and human rights, especially women's rights.
