The US Department of Justice has approved two packages of sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, but a final decision on them has not yet been made, Politico reports, citing a source in the US administration.
The publication writes that the blacklists approved by the ministry affect the project operator, the Swiss company Nord Stream 2 AG, and its head, Mathias Warning.
The sanctions packages for Nord Stream 2 will be presented to Congress in May.
As specified in the article, the final decision will be made by US President Joe Biden. At the moment, it is not known whether Nord Stream 2 AG and Warning will be included in the final lists.
Earlier, the publication reported that the White House is discussing the candidacy of a special envoy who will lead negotiations on stopping the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
On April 1, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project announced that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is 95% complete, with about 121 km of pipes remaining to be laid.
