Slovakia's Education Minister Branislav Grohling and Foreign Minister Ivan Korchok resigned amid a government crisis that erupted after the purchase of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V. This is reported by SME.
Both ministers represent the Freedom and Solidarity Party (SAS). Earlier, its leader, Richard Sulik, resigned as Economy Minister and issued an ultimatum: if Prime Minister Igor Matovich does not resign by Wednesday, all SAS members of the government will resign.
It is reported that the resignation of Greling and Korchok should be accepted by President Zuzana Chaputova on Thursday at 14: 00.
Branislav Grohling did not say whether the SAS would withdraw from the coalition. He said that he would answer all the questions together with Sulik and Korchok on Thursday.
“We will answer absolutely all questions that may arise, as three SaS ministers are resigning, and this affects the future course,” Greeting explained.
On March 3, it was reported that Slovakia purchased 2 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine from the Russian Federation before its registration in the EU. This provoked a political crisis and risked the collapse of the ruling coalition in Slovakia.
On March 11, due to the scandal with the Russian vaccine, the head of the Ministry of Health of Slovakia, Marek Krajci, was dismissed. On March 22, Matovich announced his readiness to leave the post of prime minister, but not the Cabinet. On March 23, Economy Minister Sulik resigned.
