French Culture Minister Roselyn Bachelot attended a private screening of Faust at the Paris Opera the day before she tested positive for coronavirus. This is reported on Sunday by the newspaper Liberation.
After the performance, which was shown on Friday evening in an almost empty hall for broadcast on the France 2 TV channel, the minister went backstage, where she closely communicated with the performers of the main roles. The newspaper Le Monde, in turn, writes that the photo of the minister, surrounded by seven people who were standing close enough to her, was published by one of the former students of the dance school at the Paris Opera. The publication notes that the minister did not advertise her participation in this event, which took place against the background of protests by workers of the cultural industry, who demand to resume the work of theaters and cinemas closed since last fall.
At the same time, on Sunday night, the Minister-Delegate for Industry to the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Reconstruction of the country, Agnes Panier-Runache, also said that she was forced to go into self-isolation. “The TousAntiCovid app informed me today that I was in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. I passed the test, and it came back negative. In accordance with the recommendations, I am self-isolating for seven days to protect my loved ones, " she wrote on Twitter.
These are not the first cases of coronavirus infection in the French government. Exactly a week ago, the positive diagnosis was confirmed by the Minister of Labor Elizabeth Bourne. Prior to it, COVID-19 was detected by Frank Riester, who held the post of Minister of Culture at the beginning of last year, and a little later — by Brun Poirson, Secretary of State under the Minister of Environmental Transition of France. In September, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the country, Bruno Le Maire, published similar news on Twitter.
