Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi wants to buy the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V". He believes that he has the right to negotiate the supplies himself since Nice is a city of international importance, but he asked for permission from the country's medical authorities.

"I ask the medical authorities to give me permission to do this," the mayor wrote on Twitter. Mr. Estrosi believes that regional authorities can act faster than federal ones in crisis situations. He cited the purchase of masks as an example. According to the mayor, in the spring of 2020, he quickly solved the problem with their supply in the city, while in the whole country there was a shortage.

Christian Estrosi represents the opposition Republicans party. He has been Mayor of Nice since 2017.

Sputnik V is a vaccine developed by the Gamalei Center. It was registered in Russia in August 2020. Its use is approved in 51 countries. According to the developer, the efficiency exceeds 90%. The EU regulator has not yet approved the use of "Sputnik V", in March it began an examination. However, two European countries have already approved the use of the drug — Hungary and Slovakia.
