Elon Musk resumed production near San Francisco in May last year, despite the quarantine imposed by the state authorities.

Several hundred workers at the Tesla plant in Fremont, California, were infected with the coronavirus after the head of the company, billionaire Elon Musk, resumed the work of the enterprise despite the restrictions of the authorities. On Saturday, March 13, writes The Washington Post with reference to the data of the local Department of Health.

The COVID-19 outbreak at the new Tesla production facility was known almost immediately after its opening. However, initially, the authorities did not publish the exact figures, citing the law on the protection of personal data.

The PlainSite website, which deals with the disclosure of information, received a document from which it follows that in May last year, immediately after the opening of the plant, about ten patients were identified. Their number continued to grow, and in December the number of infected people reached 125. However, they did not introduce quarantine.

In total, from May to December 2020, about 450 cases of coronavirus infection were detected at the plant. The company employs about 10,000 people, The Washington Post notes.

In April, when California and other US states imposed sanitary restrictions in connection with the pandemic, Musk sharply criticized the actions of the authorities.

The head of Tesla has repeatedly expressed doubt about the danger of coronavirus infection. In March, he called the panic around the pandemic “stupidity,” and in April, compared the quarantine imposed in the United States with fascism and demanded, “to return people to their damn freedom.” As reported by Buzzfeed News, Musk told his subordinates that they were more likely to die in a plane crash than from the coronavirus.

Earlier it became known that Elon Musk moved from California to Texas. He transferred his personal finances there. In addition, he announced the possibility of moving the head office of his company Tesla from California to Texas or Nevada.

Musk stressed that California has “relaxed too much” in its status as an economic leader and has become less attractive to him.
