US President Joe Biden has extended the 1995 sanctions against Iran for a year, his statement posted on the White House website.
“The actions and policies of the Iranian government<...> continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” the statement said.
In particular, Biden notes the proliferation and development of weapons by Iran, its “campaign of regional aggression”, support for terrorist groups, as well as the “malicious actions” of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Earlier, the US expressed its readiness to conduct negotiations with the Iranian side with the participation of the “six” international mediators, including Moscow and Beijing, as well as under the auspices of the EU. The Wall Street Journal reported that the Iranian authorities refused to negotiate.
