Four major cardiometabolic disorders caused the severe course of COVID-19. This is written by the Journal of the American Heart Association.
The study covered more than 900,000 hospitalizations of COVID‐19 patients in the United States by November 2020.
It turned out that more than 60% of them provoked four diseases: obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and heart failure.
At the same time, a 10% reduction in the prevalence of these diseases would help to avoid hospitalization. In this case, coronavirus patients would be taken to hospitals 11% less often, the scientists noted.
In addition, according to experts, the number of risk factors included age. In particular, about 8% of people under 50 with diabetes were hospitalized with coronavirus, but among people over 65 years of age, the share was already 29%.
