COVAX earned: the first country to receive the free vaccine from WHO

The World Health Organization has officially launched its international distribution mechanism for the COVAX coronavirus vaccine.

The first country to receive the drug under the program was Ghana, as reported by the UNICEF and WHO delegations in Ghana.

600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine landed at Kotoka International Airport in the capital, Accra, in the early morning hours of February 24 on an Emirates flight.

The handover ceremony was attended by Ghana's Minister of Health Kweku Ajman-Manu, as well as the head of the UNICEF mission in the country, Anne-Claire Dufay, and the head of the WHO mission, Francis Kasolo.
