A record proportion of Americans supported the creation of a new party
A record proportion of Americans supported the creation of a new political force. This is evidenced by the results of the study, according to the website of the Gallup sociological service.
Thus, 62 percent of citizens support the idea of a third party in the United States, since the existing Democratic and Republican parties “ do not represent the American people well.” This figure was the highest for all the time similar surveys that have been conducted since 2003. In 2017, this idea was supported by 61 percent of Americans, in 2013 and 2015-by 60 percent of respondents.
This opinion is shared by 63 percent of Republican supporters, 46 percent among Democrats, and 70 percent among independents. It is indicated that only a third of US citizens believe that the Republican and Democratic Parties represent the American public properly. The indicator fell below in October 2013, when it reached 26 percent.
At the end of January, it was reported that former US President Donald Trump planned to create his own party, which could be called Patriotic. He allegedly discussed this with his aides and other close associates in the last days of his tenure as head of state.
Later it was reported that more than a hundred former Republicans are negotiating to create a new center-right party that will oppose Trump. The negotiators planned to break away from the Republican Party because of its unwillingness to oppose the former American leader and “his attempts to undermine democracy.”
