Hundreds of thousands of Americans without electricity after an icy storm

Winter storms and extreme cold hit much of the western United States. In the regions, the movement of vehicles is difficult, there is no electricity in the houses.

In the US state of Oregon, bad weather left more than 270 thousand people without electricity. The power supply was cut off after a snowstorm with rain, writes VOAnews.

The natural “apocalypse” resulted in flooded roads, broken power lines, and fallen trees. A state of emergency has been declared in the region.

“The brigades (rescuers and intelligence agencies) are now working in full force. Assistance centers are deployed on the streets,” said Governor Keith Brown.

The National Meteorological Service has warned that temperatures could drop to 35 degrees below zero on weekends. Authorities in western Washington and western Oregon have opened insulated shelters for homeless citizens.
